2018 Open Enrollment Health Insurance Options

Hello Everyone,

Open Enrollment for the 2017-2018 health insurance year starts on November 1st.  The carriers that will be off exchange will be AvMed, Cigna and Florida Blue.

Typically these plans are stronger than plans on the ACA and I recommend my clietns who don’t qualify for subisdies to get on one of these plans.

Comparing Cigna Global and International Medical Group for EB-5 Clients.

We compare and contrast the two best options for EB-5/EB-2 clients.

For individuals coming to the United States getting proper insurance is essential. Currently the two strongest products are Cigna Global and International Medical Group’s(IMG), “Global Medical Insurance.”

Network

First off let’s compare the networks of the two products. The Cigna Global product uses Cigna’s PPO while IMG uses the “First Health Network.” The First Health Network is rather large and widely accepted however we have had issues of clients not knowing if their insurance was with “First Health” or IMG. The Cigna PPO network is elite. The funny thing is this is the only individual product Cigna offers that uses this network. Advantage: Cigna

Price

This is tough to compare apples ot apples but we will try our best. The Cigna Global product is best described as a cafeteria plan. What that means is that you can design a plan with just hospitilization, hospitilization and outpatient benefits, wellness etc. The IMG product is more straightforward with plan levels similar to the Affordable Care Act starting with Bronze all the way up to Platinum. Doctor visits and medicaitons are included in all categories. When comparing a Gold level client to Cigna, IMG was less expensive. Advantage: IMG

The Fine Print

The nice thing with the application and underwriting with Cigna is its simple. With IMG if your are an Expat but just obtained a Green Card you cannot get coverage. In addition if you are age 75 or older IMG will not let you have coverage. Advantage: Cigna

Conclusion

Both IMG and Cigna are big players in the Expat insurance field. While IMG has a nice product we feel that Cigna with 30 years experience in this market is a better product.

Cigna Global Health Insurance for Eb-5 Clients

“Health Insurance.” The words themselves automatically elicit feelings of stress confusion, and sometimes even anger. From Obamacare and Trumpcare to the Affordable Care Act, the options seem to get more complex and choices limited.

For EB-5 clients who are trying to enter the United States, obtaining medical insurance is the last thing on their minds. It isn’t until they are in the county looking at options requiring social security numbers, medical history and limited options that the problem becomes illustrated.

The good news is that Cigna is now offering a solution through their Cigna Global plans. Cigna Global provides health insurance for expatriates and globally mobile individuals. The plans can be perfectly tailored for the needs of your EB-5 clients and their families.

Some benefits of this policy:

• Worldwide Coverage
• Large PPO network with no referrals required
• Avoiding the ACA, Special Election Period
• Social Security Numbers not required
• No waiting period for coverage
• 24 Hour Application Approval
• Customer Service in the language of your clients.
• Cannot be singled out for a rate increase or cancelled.

This product not only covers an immigrant coming into he United States, but also United States citizens to travel abroad. From example, Mark Zuckerberg, a citizen who travel overseas would be eligible for this plan.

For more information on a Cigna Global policy please call Evan Tunis at 561-637.8162.

Accident Insurance as a Supplement

If you have a policy with a deductible of over $1000 it might be smart to consider a separate accident policy.  What is an accident policy?  Simply it’s a policy that will pay up to $1000-$6500 if you are hospitalized because of an accident.

For my family, I have an accident policy as we have a deductible of $7,000.  If my crazy son falls down the slide and we must go to the emergency room this policy will cover our deductible.

If you have a family or want to avoid a huge hospital bill you might want to consider accident insurance.

Health Insurance Options After Open Enrollment

If your not aware open enrollment for health insurance is over.  This was the 3 month window where you can shop different plans, apply for government help or tell the government no thanks.

For those that missed the deadline there are 3 options:

  1.  If you have a SEP(special election period) you can purchase a plan thru healthcare.gov or directly with a carrier.  An example of some SEP’s would be marriage, birth of a child, moving etc.

2.  Short Term Medical.  Short term medical is a great alternative to health insurance and provides major medical coverage at an affordable rate.  Many clients             including this author have purchased these items for there family.

3.  International PPO.  Available only for Ex-pats’ and those who travel globally.  These policies can be custom tailored to your individual needs and are priced             well.  Not to mention the network is usually one of the strongest in the world!

For a quote on a short term medical plan, International PPO or traditional plan please contact Evan Tunis at 561.637.8162

Over 65 but don’t qualify for Medicare.. We have the solution

For many approaching 65 the day is truly big.  No its not because your now rounding up to the 70’s but rather you qualify for Medicare and don’t have to deal with Obamacare, the ACA etc.  But for those who don’t qualify for Medicare based on not enough working hours finding insurance can be daunting.

Individual medical may be limited, short term will issue a decline and indemnity plans are a waste of money.

The solution:  If you are an Ex-Pat or travel outside the United States: get an International Health Policy.

Evan Tunis, owner of Florida Healthcare Insurance explains, “International policies have great networks and the policies do not discriminate based on age.  The policies are individually tailored so its a true cafeteria plan.”

While the plans are quite good it is important to remember that in order to buy one you must be an ex-pat(born outside the USA) living here or travel for the majority of time outside the USA.

If you are interested in a quote for international medical please let us know.

Let’s Talk Short Term Medical Insurance

As premiums for ACA compliant plans have begun to rise clients have been seeking alternatives.  One of the better alternatives is short term medical insurance.

What is a short term medical plan?  Evan Tunis, Owner of Florida Healthcare Insurance explains, “Short term medical is designed to provide a stop gap for those in between jobs or those or only need major medical insurance for a specific period of time.”

Short term plans can run as little as one month to as long as 12 months.  The better carriers who provide this insurance are United Healthcare and National General(Aetna).  The plans are medically underwritten, do not cover pre-existing conditions, and usually just provide a discount for services such as doctor visits and medications.

Evan Tunis, “Short term medical plans depending on your situation can make sense.  In addition with the new administration likely eliminating the individual mandate the penalty is no longer a factor.”

Pricing and Health Insurance

If you’ve ever gone to a doctor, lab, or hospital and asked what a procedure or test will cost you’ll get the same answer-what insurance do you got?

This answer is troublesome for a myriad of reasons.  Your neighbor could be paying 1/10 of what your paying or 3x for the same procedure.  There is no other business in the United States that operates like this.

It is of the opinion of Florida Healthcare Insurance that healthcare should be like any other business.  Prices should be transparent and patients should know all of their options.   The medical fields that currently do this such as Lasik have seen rates cut  significantly.

The first step to solving the health reform situation in the United States isn’t in a law or reform but rather thru transparency.

PPO Health Options In Florida

If you are looking for a PPO medical plan in Florida the options are slim.  You options are either a Blue Cross Blue Options EPO or an AvMed POS.  In the past we had choices such as Golden Rule and Cigna but that is in the past.

Evan Tunis, Owner of Florida Healthcare Insurance, “The carriers who have offered large PPO networks in the past have shut down enrollment. In its place are regional carriers or short term medical plans.”

In a case of unintended consequences the plans with the best nationwide networks are short term plans with National General and United.  Both of these carriers have products that will cover you nationwide though both are limited to 1,000,000 of claims.  To understand if a product like this would help your family please consult a licensed agent.
