Want an Honest Quote on Health Insurance Ask for a Pre-Screen

When shopping for Florida Health Insurance it is easy to find several quotes from various carriers within minutes.  However a question you should ask yourself is are the quotes accurate?

According to Evan Tunis of Florida  Healthcare Insurance, “In most cases quotes online are only quoting individuals  with optimal height/weight and who have no hospitilizations or medication.   If you have any of these factors the quote will not be accurate.

Tunis advises for all clients to ask for a pre-screen from a broker who represents all the major carriers.
“A Pre-Screen” is a likely outcome for a client based upon an underwriter looking at a potential customer.  The pre-screen will determine if a client will be considered standard, denied, rated up or have certain things excluded.

It is important before any policy is submitted to have a pre-screen done so you know exactly how much to budget for a Florida medical plan.

What the House Healthcare Bill Means for Florida Health Insurance

A few days ago the House of Represenatives released there own version of Healthcare reform. The bill is close to 1900 pages long and would take at least a few hours to understand every little provision.   So we went ahead and did the work and condescend it to a few key points.  What does this mean for Florida Health Insurance?

PUBLC OPTION:

*Only sold in exchange
*Abide by all rules private carriers must follow
*Offer Basic, Enhanced and Premium plans
*Geographically adjust premiums in same manner as private plans
*Rates must fully finance costs
*No bailout provision – cannot get additional Federal funding to pay claims
*2 billion to fund private option
*Medicare docs are in network unless they opt out
*No punishment for docs who opt out
*Annual enrollment period where docs can opt in or out

Coverage Sold in the Exchange
*No pre-ex exclusions
*2:1 max rating based on age
*Area rating allowed as specified by the Commissioner
*Individual premiums “uniform” with family premiums
*Dependent age to 27
*Carrier’s rates must be approved before allowed into the exchange

As it currently stands there is no definitive answer on how this will effect Florida Health Insurance.

As always we will keep you posted on the public reform as it relates to Florida Health Insurance.

Why You Should NEVER purchase AIG/ Homeland/ AIM/ Cinergy Health Products

Just this past week I had a client reply to me that they wished to switch from their major medical United Healthcare product to a product from Cinergy Health.  While these carriers have clever marketing campaigns that make it seem like they are major medical plans they are anything but.

Here are a few reasons to avoid these plans.

  1. This is basically a discount plan, they only cover $50 of a doctor visit, or any procedure being done. Only 6 times a year.  Most of all call your doctor of choice and ask them if they accept them.
  2. This is not a major medical plan.  The plans are a limited benefit hosptial /surgical and say as much in the brochure.
  3. They do not cover labs and only cover a portion of any surgical procedures.  Imagine being hospitlized for with a $50,000 bill and having your insurance carrier advise you that will only cover 80/20 up to $2,000 per day!  This is exactly what these carriers will do and you will end up bankrupt.

If you have any questions regarding any of these carriers or would like to move to a major medical please visit our website at www.floridahealthcareinsurance.com
